Inclusion & Access

Accessibility Statement

Our commitment to making this website accessible to everyone, and how to report any barriers you encounter.

Our Commitment

Sheikh-Ul-Alam College of Education is committed to ensuring that its website is accessible to all users, including people with disabilities. We aim to meet the requirements of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, as referenced in theRights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 (India) and consistent with the expectations for educational institutions.

Measures We Have Taken

In building and maintaining this website, we have applied the following practices to support accessibility:

  • Semantic HTML: Pages use correct heading hierarchies (one <h1> per page), landmark regions (header, main, footer, nav), and descriptive link text.
  • Colour contrast: All text-to-background colour combinations are designed to meet or exceed the WCAG 2.1 AA minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text.
  • Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements (links, buttons, form fields) are reachable and operable using a keyboard alone. Visible focus indicators are provided.
  • Alternative text: Meaningful images have descriptive alt text; decorative images are markedalt="" and hidden from screen readers.
  • Skip link: A "Skip to main content" link is the first focusable element on every page, allowing keyboard users to bypass repeated navigation.
  • Responsive and mobile-first: The site is designed for small screens first; tap targets are sized for thumb use.
  • Reduced-motion support: Animated or interactive visual effects (such as the hero scene) are suppressed when the user's system setting prefers-reduced-motion: reduce is active.
  • Form accessibility: All form inputs have visible labels, descriptive error messages, and are usable without a mouse.
  • Language declaration: The page language is declared (lang="en"), aiding screen readers in selecting the correct voice profile.

Known Limitations

While we strive for full WCAG 2.1 AA compliance, some content may not yet fully meet all criteria:

  • PDF documents: Downloadable PDFs (such as the prospectus or disclosure documents) may not be fully screen-reader accessible. We will provide accessible alternatives or HTML equivalents where possible.
  • Third-party embeds: Content embedded from third-party services (such as maps or video players) may not fully meet WCAG standards. We recommend using the contact details provided if embedded content presents a barrier.
  • Interactive 3D hero: The WebGL-based college facade scene on the home page is decorative. A static poster image is displayed for users with reduced motion, slow connections, or devices that do not support WebGL.
