Co-Curricular Activities & NSS

Education at Sheikh-ul-Alam College extends beyond the classroom. Co-curricular programmes and the National Service Scheme (NSS) develop the whole teacher — a professional who is also a thoughtful, active member of society.

Beyond the Classroom

Teacher education is not only about subject knowledge — it is about character, service, and community.

Named after Sheikh-ul-Alam — the mystic-poet who championed knowledge in the service of humanity — our college believes that the best teachers are shaped not only in lecture halls but through lived experience: cultural expression, sport, community service, and moral reflection.

Co-curricular activities are woven into the fabric of student life here, complementing the rigorous academic curriculum of the B.Ed and BBA programmes with opportunities for creative, physical, and social development.

We welcome students from across Jammu & Kashmir to bring their talents, ideas, and energy to campus life in Drugmulla.

National Service Scheme (NSS)

The National Service Scheme is a Central Government programme that encourages students to participate in community service and social development activities. NSS enrolled students earn social-service credits as part of their degree programme.

A broad canvas of co-curricular engagement for every student.

Cultural Activities

Students participate in cultural programmes celebrating the rich heritage of Kashmir, including folk traditions, poetry recitations inspired by the legacy of Sheikh-ul-Alam, music, and dramatic performances during institutional events.

Sports & Physical Education

The college sports infrastructure supports a range of indoor and outdoor activities. Participation in sports is encouraged as an integral part of holistic teacher education, building teamwork, leadership, and physical wellbeing.

Academic & Literary Activities

Quiz competitions, essay writing, debates, and seminars form a core part of student life, helping B.Ed and BBA students develop communication skills, critical thinking, and subject expertise.

Community Outreach & Social Service

Students are encouraged to engage with the local community in Drugmulla and the wider Kupwara district through awareness campaigns, literacy drives, and environmental initiatives — embodying the spirit of service taught by Sheikh-ul-Alam.

Teaching Practice Programmes

A key co-curricular dimension of the B.Ed programme: supervised teaching internships in local schools, where students apply pedagogical theory in real classrooms across North Kashmir.

Eco & Environment Initiatives

The college promotes environmental consciousness through campus greening and awareness activities, in keeping with the ecological sensibility of the Kashmir valley.
